The Chevrolet S-10, introduced in 1981, was the first compact pickup truck built by a major American automaker, setting a benchmark for small trucks in the U.S. market.

From 2002 to 2004, the S-10 offered a range of engines, including the 2.2L VORTEC 2200 MFI producing 120 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque, and the more powerful 4.3L VORTEC 4300 MFI delivering 190 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission options included a 5-speed manual with overdrive and a 4-speed electronically controlled automatic with overdrive.
